Selecting building materials are essential during the planning stages of building a heat treatment room. Suitable materials are necessary to accommodate a high-temperature heat range.
- Wood or metal studs
- Drywall walls/ceiling
- Insulation, preferably R13 rated or better
- Indoor/outdoor carpet
- No exposed concrete
- Standard 8’ ceiling height
- Manageable room size – recommend 300 sq ft or smaller.
- Rolling Racks to hold smaller items; preferably metal wire racking
How much power should I plan for?
The amount of power required is based on the type of heater you plan to use. The higher the capacity of the heater – the more energy is needed.
- 180 square foot heat treatment package – Power requirements are (4) 15 amp circuit breakers/standard wall outlets
- 300 square foot heat treatment package – Power requirements are (5) 15 amp circuit breakers, or (3) 15 amp and (2) 20 amp circuit breakers.
- 400 square foot heat treatment packages – Power requirements are (4) 15 amp circuit breakers or (2) 20 amp circuit breakers and (1) 230V outlet

How to treat belongings in a bed bug heat treatment room
Place infested items and furnishings within the treatment room, spreading them throughout the space to allow air circulation. We recommend the use of racking for the smaller items, which also allows the user to “go vertical” and utilize the entire room. The racking also helps create separation of goods. Make sure there is no loose clutter that can be subject to air movement. The best practice for treating mattresses or box springs would be to separate them and lean up against the wall. Extend recliners and remove cushions from chairs or couches if possible.
